New Travel System in Far North Queensland

A number of heavy road trains use the roads in the Tablelands Council area in far north Queensland (which includes the towns of Atherton, Malanda, Mareeba, Herberton and more).

In an effort to improve road safety on these routes, a system is being introduced to inform drivers of the whereabouts of these heavy vehicles. Under this system, road train drivers will use UHF radios to communicate with nearby road users and inform them of their location and travel direction.

Therefore, if you are travelling in this area, please switch on your UHF receivers and tune in to Channel 40 (unless otherwise signposted) to listen for this information.
