The village of Pilliga is situated in the Pilliga Forest, the largest naturally formed Cypress Pine Forest in the southern hemispere.  The Pilliga is home to one of the largest koala populations in the world and it is not unusual to see kangaroos, emus and a large variety of birds or even wild brumbies in the areas surrounding the village.  It is also said to be home to the ‘Pilliga Yowie’ and has its very own species of mouse, the Pilliga Mouse.  Call in at the Pilliga Forest Discovery Centre in Baradine to discover the hidden secrets of the Pilliga Forest.

Pilliga is also home to the Pilliga Artesion Bore Baths. Swimming in the hot mineral waters of the bore has been a popular recreational activity for many years.  The bore was originally constructed as a town water supply after a severe drought.  Ongoing improvements have been made to the site including a roof covering the pool area and new toilet and BBQ facilities.

Other attractions include the Pilliga Cemetry where you can view the graves of the pioneers and Pilliga Pottery where everything is hand made on site using local clays.  Also on offer are farm tour, horse riding, goat milking, pottery classes, bush walking and star gazing.

Pilliga is a great base for exploring the amazing surrounding countryside.
