Owen is located 70 kilometres north of Adelaide in the heart of the Adelaide Plains. Once predominantly a sheep and cattle grazing area, since the 1990s the region has become better known for producing wheat, barley, and more recently olives.
The small town of approximately 400 residents is well serviced with a post office, bowling club, swimming pool, grocery/deli, hotel and golf course.
Owen is surrounded by parks and wetland, which support a wide variety of plant, animal and birdlife. The Adelaide – Balaklava broad-gauge railway line passes through Owen. The railway yard is marked by a series of massive grain silos and a 30 metre water tower constructed in the 1940s.
Unlimited parking is available at the recreation reserve opposite the local hotel situated on Railway Terrace.
