Lochiel is a small town located 125 kilometres north of Adelaide off National Highway One, between Port Wakefield and Snowtown.
The town lies on the western edge of Lake Bumbunga and is named after Lochiel Forest near Inverness in Scotland. There is a local myth that the Lake is home to the Lochness Monster’s cousin, ‘Loch Eel’. An artistic creation of the creature made from rubber tyres and plastic has been located near the Lake since the 1960s.
Potable water is available from the Town Oval.
