Settled in the early 1840s, Harrow is Victoria’s oldest inland town, nestled in a valley along the Glenelg River, 29km from Balmoral and 32 kilometres from Edenhope. Harrow contains many historical buildings like the Hermitage Hotel (1848), the Log Gaol (1859), Kaland Cottage (1876), school (1878), and Uniting Church (1879).
Harrow is the birthplace of Johnny Mullagh, one of 11 Indigenous cricket players from Australia’s first international sporting team of 1868. The Johnny Mullagh Cricket Centre (Blair Street) commemorates this historically significant event. The Visitor Information Centre is also located here and has casual street parking for vehicles up to 11 metres.
The weekly Sound and Light Show (October to June) brings Harrow’s history to life in a night of mystery, mayhem and fun including a meal, refreshments and tour. Other events include the National Bush Billycart Championships, Johnny Mullagh Memorial Cricket Match, Quick Shear Competition, Classic Scramble Motorcross and Farmers Markets.
