RV Friendly Town - Bruce Rock

Lat Long: - 118.148819, 31.87722

Bruce Rock is situated in the Central Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 240 kilometress north-east of Perth. Bruce Rock has a country atmosphere with wide tree lined streets and easy parking.

The town was originally named Noonajin, but was changed due to the similarity to other names in the area. John Rufus Bruce, who the town was named after, was a sandalwood tree cutter who set up camp 2 kilometres from town under a granite rock outcrop, thus Bruce Rock.

The Amphitheatre is located across the road from the TIC, a great place to relax under the stars and enjoy the entertainment. Take a stroll through the Sculpture Park and admire the gardens. The Aquatic Centre and Recreation Centre offer swimming and a variety of sports to keep you fit and active.

The region’s heritage is refl ected in its buildings from a past era. One of these buildings is the Bruce Rock Shire Office, opened in 1929. The Bruce Rock Museum, located in Johnson Street, houses a comprehensive collection of memorabilia. At the rear of the museum stands the original one room school house and a replica mud brick settler’s cottage from the pioneering days. Just a short drive from town is the Shackleton Bank claiming to be the smallest bank in Australia, measuring only 3 metres by 4 metres, and was in use up to 1997.

Bruce Rock hosts an annual Vietnam Veterans Reunion and this year during October/November will hold their sixth event. They are keen to make the 2007 Back to the Bush Reunion the biggest one yet.

Take a drive around the region and you will come across Kokerbin Rock, the third largest monolith in Australia. This is an ideal location for a barbeque or picnic. Up the road in Ardath is the 1925 heritage style Ardath Hotel with its original bar furniture and restored restaurant.

Take that side road off the Great Eastern Highway to experience Bruce Rock, another of the RV Friendly Towns that Western Australia has to offer.
