The list of various state dealerships include Matilda Motorhomes, Talvor Motorhomes, Northstar Slide-on Campers, Travelhome 5th Wheelers, Playmor 5th Wheelers and King of the Road 5th Wheelers.

National Harvest Labour Information Service: Work while You Travel

Established in 2003 to help growers and jobseekers find each other, The National Harvest Labour Information Service (NHLIS) offers a way for eligible workers in Australia to finance travel around the country.

A typical day on the Harvest Trail could see you picking fruit and vegetables, packing, pruning and trimming, thinning flowers and performing other odd jobs around a farm.  Work could include climbing ladders, standing, kneeling or sitting while moving around the crop.

There is not just one Harvest Trail but many.  Harvest workers can choose to circle the continent or follow the sun.  They can go south from the wet tropics of far north Queensland to Tasmania’s Huon Valley or east from Western Australia’s Margaret River to the Riverina in NSW.

Placement of jobseekers into work is easiest for those that have their own transport and accommodation.

KEA Campers:  New Timber-style Flooring

Dark oak timber-styled veneer flooring is an alternative to carpets in the enhancements to KEA’s four-berth Dreamtime and six-berth Endeavour models.

KEA is upgrading its in-vehicle entertainment systems with the installation of larger, HD compatible flat screen televisions with built-in DVD player and digital set top box.

In both the Dreamtime and Endeavour motorhomes, the dining and sitting area can be quickly configured as a large double bed – and in the four berth Dreamtime, as two full-size single beds.  The Dreamtime has the option of a standard double bed plus table in the rear – a popular alternative as it means travellers do not have to make the bed up each night.

The new design features are being retrofitted to KEA’s current rental fleets across Australia and New Zealand.

KEA operates the youngest fleet of rental campervans and motorhomes in Australia and New Zealand.  KEA builds its own vehicles in Sydney and Auckland, using marine construction techniques and heavy-duty, sustainable materials to ensure a highly durable, premium quality product and driving experience.

KEA motorhomes can be purchased from the KEA factory - the Dreamtime for $129,000.00 and the Endeavour at $134,000.00.  Ex-rentals of both models are available for sale.

Tyrecheckers™ Tyre Pressure Indicators:  Maintain Correct Tyre Pressure

Most of us know that correct tyre pressure results in the best possible fuel efficiency but haven’t linked that to the impact on the environment.

Department of Environment recently released a statement which advised to ensure your tyres have the maximum recommended air pressure so they roll more easily. Result - save up to 100 kilograms of greenhouse gases each year and extend tyre life.

US Senator Barack Obama also joined the debate: “I laid out my plans for investing $15 billion a year in energy efficient cars and a new electricity grid and somebody said, 'well, what can I do? what can individuals do?' Obama recalled. "So I told them something simple," Obama said. "I said, ‘You can inflate your tires to the proper levels and that if everybody in America inflated their tires to the proper level, we would actually probably save more oil than all the oil we'd get from John McCain drilling right below his feet there, or wherever he was going to drill.'"

Trakka:  Trakkadu – a Real Steal

Trakka has always considered the Volksagen T5 LWB 1.9 TDi 5 Speed with a Trakkadu II Conversion to be great value – even a “real steal”.

Imagine their horror when a thief did exactly that – stole a demo model from one of their dealers. The thief visited the dealership three times in an Audi Quattro A6 – and left the Audi (you guessed it – stolen as well!) together with a fake driving licence.

In these situations when you are working with police to recover the stolen campervan, a little dark humour can relieve the tension. Some wag commented that police were looking for a thief with good taste – first the Audi and then the Trakkadu!

Long Flat:  Great Review for Semillon Sauvignon Blanc in a B-Pak

Cheviot Bridge believes it became one of the top twenty wine companies in Australia through good quality wine at reasonable prices and through innovation.

Like any wine company, they enjoy a good review from a well respected wine reviewer.  So they toasted themselves with a Semillon Sauvignon Blanc when they read the following review from James Halliday in his James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009:

“Long Flat Semillon Sauvignon Blanc B-Pak 2007 - Pretty good effort for ‘07, anchored in Semillon and filled with a touch of sweetness. Value at this price.  Rating 87/100”.

Cheviot Bridge report the price for a B-Pak is normally under $10.00 - the same price as a 750ml bottle.  The long Flat B-Paks are available at Woolworths, BWS, First Choice, Dan Murphy, Safeway and most major independents.

Dentist In a Box:  Dental Problems can spoil Motorhoming Lifestyle

'Australia's Health 2008', an annual national report compiled by Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, estimates that 18% of Australians have difficulty eating foods due to dental problems and those problems increase with age.  Australians, particularly the older age group, have a history of dental decay which requires a filling (84%) or extraction (61%).

Obviously, existing problems require a visit to the dentist prior to setting out on a motorhoming trip.  Problems which occur during the trip can be treated with a dental first aid kit.

Dr John of Dentist In a Box recommends that people travelling well away from areas serviced by dentists or for extended periods away from areas serviced by dentists should carry a first aid kit for dental problems.   Dr John said that his first aid kit for dental problems is Australian made using the highest quality, hospital-grade materials. It provides temporary, immediate and effective relief from the inconvenience and suffering of unexpected dental problems. It's drug-free, acting locally to minimise side- effects.

Webasto Product Australia Pty Ltd:  Combined Hot Water and Motorhome Heater

Remember when not all cars had heaters?  And some cars had after-market heaters fitted?

Motorhomes started out without heating in the home part – well, without safe and legal heaters.  Some motorhomers used portable gas bottles with burners, others left the gas oven door open – options which robbed the home of oxygen and sometimes even the life of the occupants.

Next, the Webasto diesel furnace – the burning took place externally and all the motorhomers got was the safe, hot air.

Now the Dualtop - a combined hot water and motorhome heater.

Great idea!  The Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2008 agreed and awarded the product the “Caravanning Design Award 2008/2009 – Innovations for new mobility”.

KEA continues to support the motorhoming lifestyle with the renewal of its sponsorship of the CMCA.

Winnebago Industries:  Winnebago’s RV Fuel Economy Run

Cost of fuel is a now a usual topic when discussing travel.  Winnebago Industries say that motorhomes can save around 75% on a journey against the more traditional method of travelling i.e. a car, motel and eating out and that motorhomes are surprisingly (to many) economical on fuel, often using less than your average large car or SUV.

The Winnebago’s RV Fuel Economy Run from the Gold Coast in Queensland to Winton Raceway in Victoria was conducted using various size motorhomes, a caravan and a 5th Wheeler. All vehicles ranged in size and price.

The convoy drove along the Pacific Highway at a steady speed, led by the NRMA official vehicle which monitors fuel consumption to ensure an accurate figure is obtained at the end of the trip, arriving at Winton on August 1 for the V8 Supercars.

Country Motor Company Winnebago:  Motorhome Market Expanding

Danny Brian of Country Motor Company Winnebago has completed his review of the current motorhoming market.

Danny was pleased to highlight the fact that many people new to motorhoming are purchasing   motorhomes.  The types of people and the reasons for purchase are many and varied.  People still working are purchasing motorhomes for weekends and holidays – in preference to purchasing a holiday house.  Retires are purchasing to complete their lifestyle change.  Some people purchase for that one, extended lap of Australia and intend to sell the motorhome on completion – well, that’s the initial plan.  Others are purchasing for a new lifestyle and have no timeframes in mind.

Danny also reported purchases across the entire range of motorhomes.    His senior management endorsed his recommendation to carry the entire range and to expand stock levels – a huge vote of confidence in the future of motorhoming is Australia.

Made to Measure Mattresses:  Bendable Spring Mattress

Space is always at a premium in motorhomes.  Getting mattresses into tight spaces has often been a huge problem. Mattress can be made in two pieces but this approach will add to the cost.

Made To Measure Mattresses has responded to the limited space challenge with an innovative solution - a bendable spring mattress!  The mattress is bent in half width ways, making it much easier to get into the bed space.  Once in position the mattress fills the bed space.

Made To Measure Mattresses said the feel and comfort of the bendable spring mattress is not compromised.

Made To Measure Mattresses has made bendable mattresses for people with health problems or people who would like to raise the head of the bed for reading or viewing the scenery through the windows in the morning.  The mattress bends at the appropriate spot and a bolster is inserted beneath the mattress!  Innovation at an economical price!

Coastline Trading:  Prices of LED Lights Down

Coastline’s managing director, Ian Menzies, reports a dramatic upswing in LED light sales.

Ian believes the trend to be self sufficient and less reliant on a 240 volt power source is one factor.  Better and brighter lights are another factors.  However, Ian believes the most significant factor is a reduction in price.  As the volume of production increases, the prices come down.  Ian reports prices down by 30%.

As the range of LED lights expands, power used being as low as 0.4 s per hour – and well priced – Ian is increasing his stock holding in response to increased demand.

Apollo Motorhome Holidays:  Apollo Fleet Goes Green

Apollo CEO Luke Trouchet said, “As the Southern Hemisphere’s largest privately owned leisure vehicle operator, we have a responsibility to minimise our environmental impact wherever possible”.

Apollo Motorhome Holidays has become a member of New Zealand’s GreenFleet program.  As part of the GreenFleet membership, trees will be planted to offset carbon emissions from their fleet of quality motorhomes, campervans and car rentals in Auckland and Christchurch.

Apollo reduces carbon emissions by maintaining a modern, fuel efficient fleet of vehicles. All new vehicles are manufactured to the highest industry standards by leading manufacturer Talvor Motorhomes.

With a total of 13 branches throughout Australia, New Zealand and the USA, Apollo’s GreenFleet membership is one of many planned environmental initiatives.
